The University of Professional Studies, Accra Graduate School has officially launched its 2026 Practitioner’s Forum, an academic engagement designed to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-world professional practice.

Held on 17 April 2026, the opening session set the tone for a two-day programme centered on industry relevance, practical skills, and career readiness. The forum brings together students, academics, and industry professionals to explore the evolving demands of the modern workplace.

Bridging Theory and Practice

Speaking at the event, the Acting Dean of the Graduate School, Dr. Michael Mickson, emphasized that the forum reflects UPSA’s commitment to combining academic knowledge with professional experience. He explained that the initiative allows students to connect theory with practice while gaining deeper insight into industry expectations.

He encouraged participants to actively engage in the discussions, describing the forum as a key platform for shaping future professionals who are both knowledgeable and industry-ready.

Academic Preparation Meets Industry Expectations

Representing the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Emmanuel Selasi Asamoah highlighted that the Practitioner’s Forum is a mandatory component under the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC) accreditation framework. He noted that participation contributes to academic assessment and graduation requirements.

He further stressed that success in today’s job market requires more than academic qualifications, pointing to the importance of adaptability, communication skills, critical thinking, and entrepreneurship.

Industry Insight from Ecobank Executive

The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Michael Larbie, Group Executive for Corporate and Investment Banking at Ecobank. He shared insights from his global career, emphasizing how technology, artificial intelligence, and global economic shifts are reshaping professional life.

Mr. Larbie encouraged students to embrace continuous learning, build strong professional networks, and develop resilience and entrepreneurial thinking as essential tools for long-term success.

Preparing Future Professionals

The forum provided students with direct exposure to industry expertise and practical guidance, reinforcing UPSA’s mission of producing graduates who are not only academically strong but also professionally competent.

The second day of the forum, scheduled for 18 April 2026, is expected to continue discussions on workplace readiness and professional development, further strengthening the link between education and industry practice.
