A MANIFESTO DELIVERED BY MASTER DZIWORNU RICHARD KOVOR ON THE 1^ST JUNE,2021 AS AN ASPIRANT OF THE OFFICE OF CoHSS – KNUST PRESIDENCY FOR THE 2021/2022 ACADEMIC YEAR

WELFARE

Mr Chairman, Electoral commissioner, respected members of the college, in line with the constitutional demands ahead of our elections come JUNE 7, I Master Dziwornu Richard Kovor through this medium reach you with my manifesto.

Despite the efforts of the current and past administrations to see the college get even better, there still remains a great deal of work to be done in order to meet the needs of students of the college. My service to the core agenda has excellent policies that the Richard led administration will put in place to transform this college. I have strategically identified problems that have been crippling the college over the years, and have designed an excellent policy plan to solve these problems in a pragmatic approach.

One of the major setbacks which most students find uncomfortable with has to do with the disbursement of the COHSS BOAFO) FUND. The mode of application for the COHSS BOAFO) fund is too complex and tedious to meet the changing needs of our current state. Options such as the applicants house number, information of siblings etc do not serve the interest for which the fund was made.

The number of beneficiaries which was 100 as of the last administration’s disbursement to our knowledge does not match the growing population of our college. And as such;

1. The college under my watch shall digitalized the mode of application and take off irrelevant options from the processes that would be outlined.

1. There shall be an administration that operates on a paperless basis where all forms of bursary applications and any related applications shall be made online.

1. Our administration shall revamp and increase the number of beneficiaries of the fund.

To even break this further;

1. A CoHSS APP shall be designed to serve the purpose of the digitalization of the fund such that students can be at the comfort of their residence and apply to be a beneficiary.

1. The idea of digitalization is in line with the measures to minimize public gathering which is void of congestion hence combating the novel COVID – 19.

1. The increase of the beneficiaries is to create room for more students to access the fund hence ease financial burdens of students.

Another important policy that shall be implemented by my administration is the introduction of the “FOCOHSS SCHEME”. This scheme shall address these pressing problems;

• Currently there is no scheme in the college that is geared towards catering for students who at the course of their study loose their parents or relatives who are solely responsible for their education.

•      There is also not any scheme to give special care and attention to the physically challenged students in the college.

The scheme shall operate under the office of the welfare chairperson.

A feature would be designed on the COHSS APP to aid the process of application.

All Beneficiaries shall enjoy it for one academic year and may apply again for new enrollment.

ACADEMICS

ACADEMIC CONGRESS

PROBLEM:

• There is currently no vibrant body under the ACADEMIC BOARD (student level) at the college level that serves the academic needs of students.

SOLUTION

My administration shall established an ACADEMIC CONGRESS which will operate under the watch of the academic board to serve the academic needs of students.

BREAKDOWN

1. The ACADEMIC CONGRESS shall consist of a representative from every class within the college and the academic board chair/ vice from the 3 faculties.
2. The duties of this body shall be decentralized down to the faculties and a report of their work shall be given to the college academic committee under the watch of the academic board chair.
3. The congress shall make provisions for stationary at the various exam centers for the use of students.
4. Nose masks shall be made available at these centers too to avoid a situation where a student may be denied the opportunity to write for not having or for forgetting his/her nose mask.
5. The congress shall award students who availed themselves to mentor other students’ certificate having the signatories of the PROVOST, DEAN and the PRESIDENT. 
6. This certificate can be used as volunteering work done during scholarship and other related applications.

PUBLICITY

COHSS JOURNAL

PROBLEM:

• There is currently no journal for the association that publicizes various issues that affect students in the college.
• That captures the happenings in the college both at student level and the college administrators’ level.
• That captures the outstanding contributions members are giving both at the field of their studies and their interest based.

SOLUTION:

The administration under my watch shall introduce a journal called ‘STATE OF COHSS TODAY’ that will give regular updates on the happenings in the college both at student administration level and college’s level.

BREAKDOWN:

1. The 3 member faculties (SOCIAL SCIENCE, LAW, KSB) would be tasked to submit a report on the happenings, achievements, progress of projects, reports on programs organize, challenges and other relevant issues that would need the urgent attention of the college.

1. Students into arts, with special skills, talents, and other things that are outside the classroom would be brought to the known of the college for assistance and supports as the case may be.

1. A feature would be designed on the COHSS APP that would solicit for the views of students. Students would be encouraged to submit their challenges just by keying their credentials onto the app.

1. The delivery on this initiative shall be mid-semester and end of semester basis.

Unifying / Amalgamating COHSS

CoHSS CONNECT

PROBLEM

Over the years, the college hasn’t really devised ways and means to bringing the 3 faculties together except the current administration that started something in relation to that effect.

SOLUTION

1. The college under our watch shall bring on board initiatives that will be aimed at bringing the 3 faculties together.
2. We shall initiate activities dubbed COHSS CONNECT which shall involve the 3 faculties and aim at unifying them.

BREAKDOWN

1. We shall introduce a program called CoHSS MOST TALENTED in addition to the already existed one so as to promote harmonious living of members in the college.
2. It shall be a talent show program where a platform would be created for members to unleash their potentials.
3. Specify areas shall be spelled out and members would be encouraged to compete among themselves.
4. Deserving members would be motivated and supported on their field of expertise.

                                                     WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

THE CoHSS WOMAN’S HAND

PROBLEM

Over the years, the financial security of our dear women has been underplayed. There is no policy that seeks to ensure the financial stability of women in CoHSS.

SOLUTION

Our administration shall bring money into the purse of our dear women through the THE CoHSS WOMAN’S HAND policy.

BREAKDOWN

1. We shall engage our women in an intensive skill training activities such as batik making, tie and dye, liquid soap making and shampoo making among others.
2. We shall bring NGOs like GOODNEWS THEOLOGICAL SERMINARY who are into women empowerment on board for this special task.

CAPACITY BUILDING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

GIVING BACK YOUR PAID DUES

PROBLEM

The college over the years has made no provision for entrepreneurs. It has come to our realization that there are a lot of entrepreneurs in CoHSS but most of them lack funding and the necessary support needed so they are unable to maintain or even expand their businesses.

SOLUTION

Our administration, with the idea of bringing moneys in the pockets of CoHSS people shall give back to the people their paid dues as a supportive fund to aid them maintain or expand their businesses.

BREAKDOWN

A sector of the CoHSS APP will be designed as the medium through which entrepreneurs in the college will log unto with their credentials to be selected to beneficiaries of the GIVING BACK initiative.

• The selecting committee will bring together all the entrepreneurs under one umbrella and invest into their businesses
• These entrepreneurs will intend give us finished products for our programs in the college.

I look forward for your usual cooperation and through this medium call on each and every member under CoHSS to fully rally their supports behind me as we journey together to CoHSS – KNUST. I therefore urge everyone to go to the poll come JUNE 7 and vote massively for Richard Kovor NO. 4 on the ballot screen for the prosperity of our dear college.
