Knust Election : THE VOICE OF THE PEOPLE, Hannah Newman.

In the silence of the halls, a new voice is heard stilling all movement. A voice with power, a voice which holds determination and passion, the voice of a fighter but the question is, “Who is he, or better still, she?” She is Hannah Newman.

On the 4th of September, 2001 in Takoradi, Miss Hannah Newman was born to Mr. Seth Newman and Mrs. Ama Sekum Preprah. Being a proud Akan, she comes from Cape Coast but currently resides in Takoradi with her family. Surrounded by family and friends who helped her realize her potential, she grew to become the conqueror she is today. She attended Ghana National College where she served as the main house prefect of Elsie Dadzie Annex and also the president of Junior Achievers Club in her time.

From sources, she is one who is always ready to help and serve and is loved by all who know her for her beautiful personality. After completing her secondary education, she gained admission into our esteemed institution. Currently, Hannah is offering BA Political Studies with a minor in French and is in her second year. As a member of Independence Hall, she is very passionate about her hall and this led to her stand for the position of General Secretary.

One afternoon, I stumbled upon a mock vetting where different aspirants were being tested. Among the lot she stood proud and tall, patiently waiting for her turn. Surrounded by different people, I walked up to her and interviewed her because she had caught my eye. As it turns out, Hannah is a very God fearing and strong willed person with a caring heart. She loves cooking, reading and playing badminton.

Her role model was Georgina Woode, who was the previous Chief Justice, but found her new role model to be her mother. Her number one motivator is God who she says motivates her through her favorite memory verse which is Romans 8:28 (All things shall work well for those who love the Lord). In ten years, she aspires to become a qualified and practicing lawyer and business owner.

As she continued to express her thoughts I asked her the million dollar question, “Why did you decide to run for the General Secretary of Independence Hall?” She replied, “I wish to be a pillar of support and a source of motivation to everyone around me. Growing up, I’ve had help and support from family and friends and truly I cannot thank them enough. This ignited the zeal to also help those around me in any way I can. I want to be the voice of the people.”

I can honestly say after that encounter with Hannah Newman, things will truly look up for the better for Independence Hall because they have a voice, the voice with power, a voice from within… She is Hannah Newman, the voice of the people and she does not take no for an answer.
