UCC Community in Mourning After Fatal Highway Crash
The University of Cape Coast (UCC) is grieving the loss of two members of its academic community following a tragic road accident on the Accra–Cape Coast Highway.
In an official statement released on Tuesday, April 28, the university expressed “profound shock and deep sorrow” over the passing of Dr. Kwabena Koforobour Agyemang, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Geography and Regional Planning, and his teaching assistant, Peter Amoadu-Asmah.
Details of the Accident
The fatal incident occurred in the early hours of Tuesday at Third Ridge Junction and involved a Toyota Corolla and a HOWO tipper truck. The crash claimed the lives of the two UCC affiliates and left five others injured. The injured victims were transported to the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital for medical attention.
Remembering the Deceased
Dr. Agyemang was widely regarded as a committed academic whose contributions to teaching, research, and institutional service earned him deep respect among colleagues and students.
Mr. Amoadu-Asmah, who was undertaking his National Service, was a recent graduate of the same department. He had distinguished himself academically, graduating as the overall best student.
University’s Response
UCC extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and assured them of its support during this difficult period. The university also called on the public and the media to report on the incident with sensitivity and respect.
