KNUST Student Murder: 21-Year-Old Suspect in Custody
A devastating incident has shaken the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) community, as a final-year student, Miss Joana Deladem Yabani, was found dead near the KNUST Disability and Rehabilitation Centre on February 27, 2025. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has taken a significant step in the investigation, confirming that 21-year-old Daniel Tuffour, a final-year student and reported boyfriend of the deceased, has been taken into custody for questioning.
According to DCOP Emmanuel Teye-Cudjoe, the Ashanti Regional Police Commander, Tuffour was identified through CCTV footage on the KNUST campus, which played a crucial role in his apprehension. “We have identified the suspect through CCTV footage on the KNUST campus, and he is currently assisting us with our investigations,” DCOP Cudjoe stated.
To ensure the safety of students and staff, the police have announced an intensified 24-hour surveillance operation on the KNUST campus. “We are stepping up our efforts to maintain security on campus. Our officers will be conducting round-the-clock patrols and monitoring activities,” DCOP Cudjoe added.
The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr. George Akuffo Dampare, has also assured the university of safety on campus, speaking with the Vice-Chancellor via phone call. The Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, expressed her appreciation for the IGP’s support and assurances, stating, “Waking up to such horrible news was truly suddening, and losing a student in this manner is heartbreaking, especially for parents. We are grateful to the IGP for his swift intervention and the measures that have been put in place”.http://knustnoticeboard.info
