KNUST Management Abolish JCR and Hall Elections Effective From 2023/24 Academic Year; The Junior Common Room (JCR) system of hall management by students at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has been terminated by KNUST Council.
The choice was made in response to fights between inhabitants of Unity Hall and University Hall that destroyed a number of cars.
The JCR system of hall management by students will be eliminated, according to a press release signed by the university’s registrar and secretary to the university council, A.K. Boateng. From the academic year 2023–2024 onward, there won’t be any student elections for hall executives.
On Friday, August 26, 2022, the University Council made the choice during a special meeting.
With effect from the 2023/2024 Academic Year, the Junior Common Room (JCR) System of Hall Management by students, is ABOLISHED. This means, there would be no Students’ elections for hall executives. The existing governance structure comprising Hall Councils, Hall Masters and Senior Tutors, would continue to operate in the management of the alfairs of the Halls. In addition, Hall Fellows will be appointed and assigned to floors/blocks of the Halls to exercise direct supervision over matters affecting students
