Adorable Photos of Aburi Girls’ Senior High School Uniform. Aburi Girls’ Senior High School, originally Aburi Girls’ Secondary School, is a Presbyterian senior high boarding school for girls in the Eastern Region of Ghana, located south of Aburi.
Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School, also known as “PRESEC,” is Aburi Girls’ brother school.
With only seven pupils, Aburi Girls Senior High School was initially formed as a secondary school for girls in 1946.
Its beginnings, however, may be traced back to 1852, when the Basel Missionaries established a primary school for girls at their mission station within the town. The primary school remained open until the Scottish Mission took it during World War I.
Teachers were trained with a kindergarten section and a middle school, both for girls, in the 1920s, and secondary subjects were introduced alongside the teacher-training course in 1946.
When the Basel Mission and the Scottish Mission withdrew in 1950, the Presbyterian Church of the Gold Coast (now Ghana) took over the institution’s management. In 1954, the secondary school was physically separated from the teacher education classrooms and relocated to its current location on the outskirts of Aburi. Until 1958, when a Sixth Form was created, classes ran from Form 1 to Form 5. The three-year Senior High School system is now in use.
