UTAG Strike: Accra Circuit Court tells NLC and UTAG to Settle Their Case out of court

The National Labour Commission (NLC) and the University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) have been ordered to continue their negotiations outside of court by the Labour Division of the Accra Circuit Court for the second time today , 10th February,2022.

The judge, Frank Rockson Aboadwe, had ordered the two parties to consider an out-of-court settlement by Thursday, February 3 and report back at the next hearing on Thursday, February 10.

The two parties have failed to reach an agreement as of the date the matter was re-called.

NLC invited UTAG to meet over the problem, but the latter declined, preferring to meet with government officials and report back to the latter.

On Tuesday, February 8, the Government led by the Minister for Education met the University Teachers Association but didnt end well.

After an unproductive meeting with Minister of Education, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, the University Teachers Association of Ghana(UTAG) decided to continue their strike.

Mr. Kwesi Kwarteng, the Education Ministry’s Public Relations Officer revealed that both parties have agreed to reconvene on Thursday, February 10, 2022, to bring finality to the issue.
