The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) on the 30th of July, 2021 released letters to its members informing them of a strike.

The letter stated that all forms of teaching and other related activities must be halted until further notice from the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the UTAG.

The strike is to take effect on Monday, 2nd August, 2021. From that day, all activities related to teaching including examinations will be withdrawn. But the question on everyone’s minds is, ‘What is the cause of the strike?’

The government and UTAG have an agreement which pertains that once any individual enrolls as a lecturer in any public university in the country, he or she is to be paid an amount of two thousand five hundred dollars ($2500) but unfortunately, these monies have not been paid to the lecturers. This has therefore led to the frustration of the members of UTAG and the final blow being the strike before us today.
