Wesley Girls’ Senior High School (WGHS) is a girls’ secondary school in Cape Coast, Ghana’s central region. Founded in 1884 by Harriet Wrigley, the wife of a Methodist pastor, it is Ghana’s oldest secondary school.
The institution is named after John Wesley, the founder of Methodism. In 2003, Africa Almanac placed Wesley Girls’ High School 68th out of the top 100 best high schools in Africa, based on educational excellence, student participation, alumnae strength and activities, school profile, internet and news presence.
Many Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) students in Ghana aspire to enter particular senior high schools in Ghana because of the prestige associated with their names. Such pupils are more likely to research the history of the schools that have gained such renown. Many of them may be unaware of the significance of the colors used by such colleges and what they represent. Wesley Girls SHS school uniform

Wesley Girls, Cape Coast: ‘GEY HEY,’ as it is often known, is a girls-only second cycle institution. Their unique colors are yellow and green, which can be seen in the students’ required attire. It may come as a surprise to some that such a famous institution has never won the National Maths and Science Quiz (NSMQ).
