Lift ban on entertainment activities and morale – 3rd Year KNUST student to VC
Following the unfortunate cases of attempted suicide that happened on KNUST campus both within the span of two weeks, Fiifi Bediako, a 3rd year student of KNUST has sent a letter to Vice Chancellor’s office to add his voice to the many students who are seeking for the lifting of ban on entertainment activities and other students’ public gathering like morale on campus.
He attributed the sudden occurrences of suicide attempts by students to what he called a burnout syndrome.
In the said letter, he stated the absence of entertainment activities did rather exacerbate the issues of mental exhaustion amongst students which is as a result of stress.
He further noted that he believed the university’s counselling team must step up in its role to supplement students needs whilst creating an even safer space for students to share their challenges and grievances.
“In a community, where there is huge mental exhaustion from academic with with ban on social activities that may otherwise help release some stress, it becomes obvious that with time students may feel overwhelmed with loss of motivation leading to depression”, he stated in the letter.
