The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) has received funding from the Ghanaian government to commence construction of the KNUST Teaching Hospital’s first phase.
Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, Vice-Chancellor, stated that the project, which began over a decade ago, had come to a halt due to a lack of money. As a result, management approached the government for assistance in finishing the 800-bed hospital.
Professor Dickson recalled that the President, Nana Akufo-Addo, pledged his government’s commitment to completing the project during her investiture last year.
Acknowledging the efforts of the President, she announced that funds had been secured from the government to complete the first phase of the project for use. ‘‘The project covers a land area of about 71 acres. The first phase of the project, will make the OPD and administration block available.” Professor Dickson revealed.
She, therefore, expressed hope in the full completion of the Hospital.
The KNUST Teaching Hospital project, valued at about $125 million, is being executed by the College of Architecture and Planning of the University, in collaboration with the Ghana Education Trust Fund. The Hospital when completed, is expected to become a leader in medical and healthcare training in the country.
