About KNUST Food Science And Technology
The Department is one of the best in the sub-region for comprehensive training in food sciences and technologies at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These programs are specifically designed to give information and abilities that are in demand in today’s employment market.
Its guiding idea is “food quality and safety are their top priorities.” They aim to create our Bachelor’s and Postgraduate programs under this banner to meet the fundamentals of important sustainable development goals such as hunger and good health.
The Department sees food quality as the vital sensorial attribute whose standards are tailored to be regulated according to regulators. Our programmes are rooted in the basic sciences of food production, processing, food product development, packaging storage, and process engineering. Using all scientific tools available, the Department strives to ensure that the food on the table meets microbial, nutritional, and chemical safety standards to maintain healthy living.
In Food Science and Technology programmes, we expect all graduates to have the requisite skills in search areas as; food chemistry, food microbiology, food product development and sensory evaluation, and food process engineering.
As humans, we are continually exposed to environmental dangers that might contribute to illness outcomes in our food sources and nutrition. Knust Admission Requirement for Bsc Food Science And Technology
WASSCE/SSSCE APPLICANTS
Credits in THREE (3) Elective Subjects including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics
‘A’LEVEL APPLICANTS
FIVE (5) credits at GCE’O’ Level, including Mathematics and English Language and any of the following: Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or General Agriculture.
MATURE APPLICANTS
FIVE (5) credits at GCE’O’ Level, including Mathematics and English Language and any of the following: Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or General Agriculture.,
OR
WASSCE/SSSCE Credit passes in THREE (3) Core Subjects plus credits in any THREE (3) of the following: Chemistry, Physics, and Biology or General Agriculture. Short-listed applicants may take an Entrance Examination and pass an interview
DIPLOMA/HND (TOP-UP)
Applicants with Diploma or HND in Food Manufacturing or Food Science or Food Technology from a recognized institution(s). Applicants that offered course content (evidenced by their transcripts) close to our degree content may be offered admission to the 2nd Year subject to passing an interview.
