Gyakie, VOK LIVE and KNUST SRC Clash Over False SRC Week Performance Report
A social media controversy erupted during the 2026 KNUST SRC Week after campus media outlet VOK LIVE announced that Ghanaian singer and KNUST alumna Jackline Acheampong, popularly known as Gyakie, was set to perform at the event.
In a post shared on X, VOK LIVE stated that Gyakie would be performing at the KNUST SRC Week for the first time since graduating from the university in 2021. The post also revisited her emotional experience during Republic Hall Week in 2019, when she was reportedly booed by students while performing as an emerging artiste.
The post suggested that thousands of KNUST students were eagerly anticipating her return to the same stage where she had once faced rejection.
However, the claim was quickly refuted by Gyakie herself.
Responding to the post, the award-winning singer wrote:
 “Unfortunately I’m not performing tonight. Hopefully, KNUST SRC acknowledges the hard work and gets things done the right way.”
Her response immediately sparked discussions online, with many questioning how the inaccurate report had been published.
The situation escalated further when the KNUST SRC officially responded to VOK LIVE, accusing the media platform of lacking professionalism and repeatedly misleading the public.
In a strongly worded statement, the SRC said the reason the outlet was forced to rebrand from “Voice of KNUST” to “VOK LIVE” stemmed from what it described as an unprofessional approach to campus journalism.
The SRC added that VOK LIVE had, on several occasions, published misinformation and warned that the platform would be held accountable for inaccurate reporting.
The exchange has generated widespread debate among students and social media users, with many calling for greater fact-checking and verification before breaking news is published.
The incident also highlights the importance of responsible journalism in the digital age, where speed often competes with accuracy. As campus media continue to play a vital role in informing students, many believe credibility can only be maintained through thorough verification and ethical reporting.
Neither VOK LIVE nor the KNUST SRC has released any further statement regarding the matter at the time of publication.
