University of Professional Studies, Accra Launches Compulsory Entrepreneurship Course for Level 100 Students.
The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has introduced a compulsory Entrepreneurship course for all Level 100 students in the 2025/2026 academic year, marking a significant step in its commitment to producing innovative and industry-ready graduates.
The initiative, announced during the Orientation Programme for freshmen, positions entrepreneurship as a foundational pillar of the UPSA experience. According to the Vice-Chancellor, John Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, the University is deliberately preparing students to become solution-driven professionals capable of creating opportunities rather than waiting for them.
“UPSA is intentionally preparing graduates who can thrive in a fast-changing global economy by becoming solution builders,” the Vice-Chancellor stated.
Building a Culture of Innovation
The course officially commenced on Monday, 9 February 2026, with classes designed to be interactive and collaborative. Students are introduced to core entrepreneurial principles, particularly the ability to identify problems and develop value-creating solutions.
University leadership emphasised that modern economies reward innovation, adaptability, and initiative. By embedding entrepreneurship into the first-year curriculum, UPSA aims to equip students early with the mindset and competencies required to build ventures, lead change, and contribute meaningfully to national and global development.
Student Reactions
Students have described the course as both exciting and rigorous. Many indicated that the training is already reshaping how they perceive challenges within their communities—encouraging them to think in terms of opportunity, solution-building, and value creation.
Some freshmen noted that the course signals the University’s seriousness about preparing them for life beyond lectures and examinations, equipping them with practical skills essential for today’s competitive environment.
Strategic and Timely Intervention
Lecturers facilitating the programme described the initiative as timely and forward-thinking. They highlighted that introducing entrepreneurship at Level 100 strengthens students’ confidence, enhances problem-solving abilities, and builds readiness for dynamic business landscapes.
Early exposure, they explained, allows students to generate ideas, test assumptions, and think practically about implementation—skills that remain valuable regardless of one’s academic discipline.
Advancing UPSA’s Vision
The compulsory entrepreneurship course reinforces UPSA’s broader mission of delivering professional, transformative, and industry-relevant education. By institutionalising entrepreneurial thinking from the first year, the University continues to advance its vision of producing graduates who can innovate, lead, and create impact—not only within Ghana but globally.
As UPSA strengthens its entrepreneurship agenda, the move signals a clear shift toward nurturing a generation of proactive, self-determined graduates prepared for enterprise and leadership.
