In a poignant tribute to Akpene Adzo Ahadzie, a KNUST architecture student who tragically lost her life in a cycling accident, Ghana Army Captain Festus Asuamah (’17) will embark on a remarkable 250-kilometer cycling journey from Accra to Kumasi.
Ride for Safety and Fitness 2025
Scheduled for April 5th, 2025, the “Ride for Safety and Fitness 2025” aims to raise awareness about cyclist safety and promote sustainable transportation in Ghana. Captain Asuamah’s initiative aligns with the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal 11.2, which focuses on safe and accessible transport.
A Journey of Remembrance and Advocacy
The journey will commence at 3:00 AM from Burma Camp and is expected to last 13-15 hours, including stops for hydration and medical checks. Through this endeavor, Captain Asuamah hopes to spark a nationwide conversation about integrating cycling into urban planning, ensuring safer roads for cyclists and promoting eco-friendly transportation.
