The Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency (MoFFA) has temporarily shut down the Enchi Government Hospital Mortuary and Agyapa Funeral Home in the Western North region following a compliance operation that uncovered several irregularities.
The exercise, led by the Registrar of the Mortuaries and Funeral Facilities Agency, Francis Ennin, forms part of an ongoing inspection of mortuaries and funeral facilities across the Western North Region to ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
During the inspection, the team discovered that the Enchi Government Hospital Mortuary and Agyapa Funeral Home were operating without the required registration.
Other violations identified included the use of air conditioners instead of standard compressors for preservation, the employment of unregistered staff, and the maintenance of environments deemed unconducive for mortuary operations.
As a result, the facilities were ordered to suspend operations temporarily until the identified irregularities are corrected.
Speaking during the exercise, Registrar Francis Ennin emphasized that the operation was not intended to collapse businesses but rather to ensure professionalism and proper regulation within the mortuary and funeral services sector.
He urged operators of such facilities to comply with the regulations set by the agency before resuming their services.
The compliance exercise is expected to continue across other parts of the Western North Region as authorities work to enforce standards and improve service delivery within the sector.
