KNUST Publishes Computer Lab Rules to Guide Student Use.

The KNUST Library has officially outlined comprehensive rules and regulations to govern the use of its computer laboratory, reinforcing its commitment to academic excellence and responsible digital conduct on campus.
The guidelines, displayed at the lab entrance, are designed to ensure discipline, protect equipment, and maintain a conducive learning environment for all users.
Access and Entry Requirements
According to the notice, students must present a valid Student Identity Card or Admission Letter before accessing the computer lab. All bags are to be deposited at designated areas before entry. Additionally, users are required to sign in and out in a register provided by library staff.
Strictly Academic Use
The Library emphasised that computers are to be used strictly for academic purposes. Activities such as playing games, listening to music, streaming movies, or engaging in any form of entertainment are prohibited. Accessing pornographic, obscene, or inappropriate websites is strictly forbidden.
Students are also not permitted to plug or unplug cables, peripherals, or network connections, nor are they allowed to install, delete, or modify any software or system settings.
Device and Equipment Safety
To prevent system infections, pen drives and other external storage devices must be submitted to library staff for virus scanning before use. Users are expected to handle all electronic devices with care and report any malfunction immediately.
The notice further prohibits food and drinks in the computer lab and requires absolute silence to avoid disturbing other users. Students must properly log out and shut down systems after use.
Sanctions for Violations
The Library cautioned that any violation of the rules may result in suspension from accessing the computer lab.
The regulations form part of broader efforts by KNUST Libraries to promote responsible technology use and protect digital infrastructure while supporting teaching, learning, research, and innovation.
At the bottom of the notice, the Library reiterates its mission:
“Your gateway to knowledge, innovation, and academic excellence.”
Students are encouraged to comply fully with the rules to ensure a safe, productive, and respectful academic environment.
